URGENT

On May 24, 2024, Suntegrity Skincare voluntarily recalled several lots of Suntegrity Impeccable Skin Sunscreen Foundation (Multiple Shades) based on its discovery of product separation causing an unusual odor and a higher than acceptable microbiological mold count for Lot 115BU that developed post-release and over time in a recent test. Out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to voluntarily recall these additional lots: 107IV, 107NU, 109NU, 117BU, 113SA, 114SA, 106BR, and 101MO even though all original and recent test results received back are clear.

If you have purchased this product directly from our website or Amazon, please check the Lot Number, which is located on the rear of the tube in the top crimp line where the tube is sealed. If the product matches any of these lots, please immediately stop use of the product and email us with your order number, product lot number, and name so we can confirm your purchase of the affected lot. After confirmation, we will request that you cut the tube and provide a photo of the back (showing the lot number) before disposing so that you may receive a refund, store credit or exchange to another Suntegrity Face SPF product.

If you purchased this product from a retailer and it falls within the range, stop use. If you would like an exchange option (5-in-1 Tinted Sunscreen + free gift), you may contact us directly. If you prefer a credit memo or refund, you will need to contact the retailer that you purchased from for further information. In any case, we will request that you cut the tube and provide a photo of the back (showing the lot number) before disposing so that you may be processed as part of the recall.

Emails and questions should be sent to ImpeccableSkinRecall@SuntegritySkincare.com. Please have patience as response times are hampered due to the high response rate.

RECALL FAQ:

We greatly appreciate our community and especially want to thank those customers who proactively reached out to us to report the issue so that we could immediately take action to resolve it.

At Suntegrity, we pride ourselves on integrity and we hope our decision to proactively do a voluntary product recall helps increase your confidence in us.

Below are answers to the most frequently asked questions about the product recall. Please continue to check back periodically as we will continue to update our responses with additional information as it becomes available.

Why did you do a recall?

This recall was initiated due to separation, off odor, and growth of a common mold (species: Aspergillus Sydowii) in some tubes of Lot 115BU months after proper initial batch release testing. Out of an abundance of caution, we extended the voluntary recall to the other identified Lots (those made from Sept 2023 to March 2024) while we investigate the cause.

What is the potential health risk if a tube does have the issue?

A topical product that is found to be contaminated with Aspergillus Sydowii could potentially cause an allergic skin reaction which generally clears after cleansing the skin and discontinuing use of the product. It could also cause a primary fungal skin infection if used an open wounds or sunburned skin. If the Product is introduced directly into the eye, an eye infection may occur. A primary skin infection due to Aspergillus species in an immunocompromised individual should be treated medically. No adverse event reports had been received at the time the recall was initiated.

Aren’t preservatives in products supposed to kill or prevent mold?

Preservative efficacy tests (PETs) are a standard part of pre-launch product testing and are intended to demonstrate the effectiveness of preservatives in a formula. Situations like this highlight the need for preservatives in formulas. Yet, preservation is never a guarantee that unique environmental contamination will not occur. All PETs for this product compliantly produced passing results, and there were no indications of any potential issues at the time of manufacture and release. As organisms like mold can develop over time in certain atypical circumstances, we knew it was important to develop a program that tests our products well beyond their launch, not just leading up to it. This is why we developed a Product Compliance Monitoring Program which detected this issue only in Lot 115BU. Out of an abundance of caution, we elected to voluntarily recall other Lots to ensure that our customers are kept safe.

Should I worry if I have already used the product?

If you have been using Impeccable Skin and the product did not have an unusual odor, the product is not likely to have had an issue at the time of use because ALL of the batches passed microbiological testing when they were initially released for sale. It was not until recently, when a customer reported a strong odor, that we re-tested the product and discovered an issue. We recently tested tubes from various batches of Impeccable Skin (with and without an off-odor) and the issue seems to be present only when there is a strong odor.

Even though the issue hasn’t appeared in all batches of Impeccable Skin made during this timeframe, given our steadfast commitment to you, our customers, we feel it is appropriate to exercise caution by issuing a voluntary recall of all batches made from September 2023 to March 2024. Accordingly, we also ask that you immediately stop use of the recalled product.

What can I use instead of Impeccable Skin?

While we work to resolve the issue, we recommend using our Suntegrity 5-in-1 Tinted Sunscreen as a product alternative.

Are other Suntegrity or ClearSPF branded products potentially effected?

No. Since Impeccable Skin is made at a facility that does not manufacture any other products for us, none of our other products are affected by this issue.

What about earlier batches?

We don’t have any reason to believe that earlier batches are affected. At this time, only batch number 115BU has shown an issue, but out of an abundance of caution, we are voluntarily recalling all batches produced within the same timeframe while we complete our investigation into the source of the issue.
